To start the Poulan Pro 260 Chainsaw, ensure that the chain brake is engaged, set the choke to the full position, prime the engine by pressing the primer bulb several times, pull the starter rope until the engine fires, then set the choke to half and pull again until the engine starts.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the air filter after every 5 hours of use, checking and tightening the chain regularly, changing the spark plug annually, and sharpening the chain as needed.
Check for fuel issues by ensuring the tank has fresh gasoline and the fuel filter isn't clogged. Inspect the spark plug for fouling and replace if necessary. Verify that the air filter is clean and the carburetor is not clogged.
Use a fresh unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87 and mix it with 2-cycle synthetic oil at a 50:1 ratio.
Loosen the bar nuts slightly, use the tensioning screw to adjust the chain tension until there's a small amount of slack but the chain fits snugly against the guide bar, then re-tighten the bar nuts.
Ensure the chain is sharp and properly tensioned. Check for any damage or dullness and sharpen the chain or replace it if necessary. Also, verify that the chain is installed in the correct direction.
Turn off the chainsaw and disconnect the spark plug. Use a soft brush or cloth to remove debris from the chain and guide bar. Clean the air filter and the cooling fins on the engine.
The chain brake is a safety feature designed to stop the chain immediately in the event of kickback or if the operator's hand pushes the guard forward. It helps prevent injuries.
Disconnect the spark plug wire, use a spark plug wrench to remove the old spark plug, and install a new spark plug, ensuring it is gapped correctly. Reconnect the spark plug wire.
Inspect the oil reservoir to ensure it is full. Check the oil pump and oil outlet for blockages, and clean them if necessary. Verify that the oil filter is not clogged.
