To start the Poulan Pro 172787 mower, ensure the fuel valve is open, the throttle is set to the 'fast' position, and the choke is engaged if the engine is cold. Then, turn the ignition key to the 'start' position.
It is recommended to use SAE 30 motor oil for the Poulan Pro 172787 mower in temperatures above 32°F. For colder conditions, SAE 5W-30 is advised.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use for a new mower, and then every 50 hours of operation or at the start of each mowing season.
Check the fuel level, ensure the spark plug is in good condition, and verify that the air filter is clean. Also, make sure the battery is fully charged if it is an electric start model.
First, disconnect the spark plug wire. Tilt the mower on its side, ensuring the air filter is facing up. Use a wrench to remove the blade bolt, replace the blade, and tighten the bolt securely.
Ensure the blade is sharp and balanced. Adjust the cutting height to the appropriate level for your lawn condition and mow when the grass is dry.
Regular maintenance includes changing the oil, cleaning or replacing the air filter, checking the spark plug, sharpening the blade, and cleaning the underside of the mower deck.
To adjust the drive belt, ensure the mower is off and cool. Locate the drive belt and adjust the tension by following the instructions in the user manual, typically involving adjusting the idler pulley.
Check for debris lodged in the mower deck, inspect the blade for damage or imbalance, and ensure all nuts and bolts are tight. Replace or balance the blade if necessary.
Clean the mower thoroughly, change the oil, and replace the air filter. Run the engine until it stops to empty the fuel system or add a fuel stabilizer. Store the mower in a dry, covered area.
