To start the Poulan Pro 1400T Trimmer, first ensure the unit is on a flat surface. Prime the engine by pressing the primer bulb 6 times. Set the choke to the full choke position, pull the starter rope until the engine attempts to start. Then, move the choke to the half choke position and pull the starter rope again until the engine starts.
Use unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87 and mix it with a high-quality 2-cycle oil in a 40:1 ratio. Ensure the mixture is well combined before refueling the trimmer.
To replace the trimmer line, first make sure the trimmer is turned off. Remove the spool by pressing the tabs on the spool housing. Cut a length of 0.080-inch trimmer line, insert it into the spool's hole, and wind it evenly around the spool. Secure the line in the notches, and reassemble the spool into the housing.
If the trimmer head won't spin, check for blockages or tangled line in the trimmer head. Ensure the drive shaft is properly engaged and inspect the clutch for wear. Clean and replace parts as necessary.
To clean the air filter, remove the air filter cover located on the side of the engine. Take out the filter and wash it with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and allow it to dry completely before reinstalling it. Replace the air filter if it shows signs of damage or excessive wear.
If the engine stalls, it could be due to a clogged air filter, old fuel, or an incorrect fuel mixture. Clean or replace the air filter, ensure fresh fuel is used, and verify the correct fuel-to-oil ratio. Also, check the spark plug for fouling and clean or replace it if necessary.
To adjust the idle speed, locate the idle adjustment screw on the carburetor. Turn the screw clockwise to increase the idle speed or counterclockwise to decrease it. Adjust until the engine runs smoothly at idle without the trimmer head rotating.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning or replacing the air filter, checking and replacing the spark plug, inspecting the trimmer line, lubricating the drive shaft, and ensuring the fuel mixture is fresh. Follow the user manual for detailed maintenance schedules.
For off-season storage, drain the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops to remove fuel from the carburetor. Clean the trimmer thoroughly, including the air filter and cutting head. Store the trimmer in a dry, well-ventilated area. Consider removing the spark plug and adding a few drops of oil into the cylinder to prevent rust.
Excessive vibration may be caused by a damaged or unbalanced trimmer head, worn drive shaft, or loose parts. Inspect the trimmer head for damage and replace it if necessary. Ensure all screws and bolts are tightened and inspect the drive shaft for wear.
