Perkins 2506-15 Maintenance Manual

The recommended oil type for the Perkins 2506-15 engine is a high-quality diesel engine oil meeting API CI-4 or ACEA E5 specifications.
The oil filter should be changed every 250 hours of operation or at least once a year, whichever comes first.
To bleed the fuel system, first ensure the ignition is off, then use the manual pump on the fuel filter assembly until fuel flows without air bubbles.
Excessive smoke can be caused by several issues, including clogged air filters, poor fuel quality, or injector problems. Inspect and replace filters and ensure fuel quality.
To adjust valve clearance, ensure the engine is cool, remove the valve cover, and use a feeler gauge to adjust the clearance to the specified gap using the adjustment screws.
Drain the existing coolant, fill the system with a mixture of water and radiator flush solution, run the engine to operating temperature, then drain and refill with fresh coolant.
The air filter should be inspected every 250 hours and replaced every 500 hours or as needed depending on operating conditions.
Inspect hoses, radiator, and connections for visible leaks. Pressure test the system if needed and replace any faulty components.
Common causes include battery issues, poor electrical connections, or wear and tear on the starter motor itself. Check battery charge and connections first.
For long-term storage, drain fuel, change oil, remove the battery, and store it in a cool, dry place. Cover the engine to protect from dust and moisture.
