The recommended oil type for the Perkins 1206F-E70TA engine is API CH-4 or ACEA E5 compliant 15W-40 grade oil.
It is recommended to change the oil every 500 hours of operation or at least once a year, whichever comes first.
To bleed the fuel system, ensure the fuel tank is full, open the bleed screw on the fuel filter, and manually pump the fuel primer until air bubbles are expelled and only fuel is seen. Then, tighten the bleed screw.
First, check the battery voltage and connections, then verify the fuel supply and filters. Ensure that the air intake is not blocked and check the engine's glow plugs if applicable.
Use a 50/50 mixture of ethylene glycol-based antifreeze and clean water for the Perkins 1206F-E70TA engine.
Inspect the air filter every 250 hours of operation. Clean or replace the filter element if it appears dirty or clogged. Use compressed air to clean if reusable.
Common causes include low coolant levels, a faulty thermostat, a clogged radiator, or a malfunctioning water pump. Check each component and replace or repair as necessary.
To adjust the valve clearance, remove the valve cover, rotate the engine to TDC on the compression stroke, and use feeler gauges to adjust the clearances to the specifications outlined in the service manual.
Listen for unusual noises, inspect for oil leaks, and check for excessive exhaust smoke. Also, ensure that the turbocharger spins freely without obstruction.
Drain the fuel and oil, disconnect the battery, and store the engine in a dry, sheltered area. Cover the engine to prevent dust accumulation and periodically rotate the crankshaft.
