Perkins recommends using a high-quality SAE 15W-40 oil meeting the API CI-4 or ACEA E7 specifications for the 1106C-70TA engine.
The air filter should be inspected every 250 hours of operation and replaced as necessary, or at a minimum, every 500 hours.
Symptoms of a failing fuel injector include rough idling, engine misfires, increased fuel consumption, and white smoke from the exhaust.
To troubleshoot overheating, check the coolant level, inspect the radiator for blockages, ensure the thermostat is functioning properly, and verify that the water pump is operational.
Essential maintenance tasks include regular oil and filter changes, coolant checks, fuel filter replacement, and air filter maintenance. Additionally, inspect belts and hoses periodically.
To reset the service interval indicator, refer to the engine's service manual for specific instructions, as it may vary based on the control panel used.
Black smoke may indicate a fuel system issue. Check for clogged air filters, inspect the turbocharger, and ensure the fuel injectors are operating correctly.
Ensure the engine is clean and dry, change the oil and filters, add fuel stabilizer to the fuel tank, and disconnect the battery. Cover the engine to protect it from dust and moisture.
To bleed the fuel system, open the bleed screws on the fuel filter housing and the injection pump, then manually pump the fuel primer until fuel flows without air bubbles. Close the bleed screws securely.
To check valve clearance, remove the valve cover, rotate the engine to TDC on the compression stroke for each cylinder, and use a feeler gauge to measure the clearance between the rocker arm and valve stem. Adjust as necessary according to the specifications in the service manual.
