Olympus FL-600R Instructions Manual v2

To set up the FL-600R for wireless shooting, ensure your camera is compatible with wireless flash control. Set the flash to RC mode by pressing the MODE button until 'RC' appears on the screen. Configure the channel and group settings to match those of your camera.
First, check the batteries to ensure they have sufficient charge. Verify that the flash is securely mounted on the camera's hot shoe. Also, ensure the flash mode is correctly set and not on a setting that disables firing, such as SL (slave mode) when not used as a slave.
To update the FL-600R firmware, connect your camera with the flash attached to your computer via USB. Use the Olympus Digital Camera Updater software to check and apply any available firmware updates.
To conserve battery life, use the flash in manual mode at a lower power setting when possible. Disable any unnecessary flash functions, such as wireless control, if not in use. Consider using rechargeable batteries with high capacity for extended usage.
To achieve bounce flash, tilt the flash head upwards or to the side towards a neutral-colored ceiling or wall to diffuse the light. Use the built-in bounce card if available to direct some light forward and create catchlights in the subject’s eyes.
To reset the FL-600R to factory settings, power on the flash, press and hold the MODE and LIGHT buttons simultaneously until the display resets. This will restore all settings to their default values.
Slow recycle time can be improved by using fresh, high-quality batteries or an external power pack. Reduce the flash output power if possible, as lower power settings recycle faster.
The FL-600R can be used in manual mode with non-Olympus cameras. Ensure proper connection via the hot shoe and adjust the flash settings manually, as automatic TTL functions may not be compatible.
To prevent overheating, allow the flash to cool down by taking breaks between shots. Avoid using full power flashes continuously, and ensure proper ventilation around the flash head.
The FL-600R has a guide number of 50 (meters, at ISO 100 and 200mm). The guide number indicates the flash's power and effective range; a higher number means the flash can illuminate subjects at a greater distance. Adjust your aperture and ISO settings accordingly for optimal exposure.
