To set up the FL-50R for wireless flash, first ensure it's in RC mode by pressing the mode button until 'RC' is displayed. Then, configure your camera settings to control the flash wirelessly. Make sure both the flash and camera are set to the same channel and group.
For optimal performance, use high-quality NiMH rechargeable batteries. They provide reliable power and fast recycling times. Avoid using alkaline batteries as they may not deliver consistent performance.
The Olympus FL-50R does not support firmware updates directly. Ensure your camera's firmware is updated to the latest version for compatibility and performance improvements with the flash.
If the FL-50R is not firing, check the battery level and ensure they are correctly installed. Verify that the flash is securely attached to the camera hot shoe and that the camera settings are configured to enable external flash.
To use manual mode, press the 'Mode' button until 'M' is displayed. Adjust the flash output by using the control dial to select the desired power level, ranging from full power to 1/64.
To prevent overheating, avoid firing the flash continuously over a short period. Allow time for the flash to cool down between shots, and ensure the ventilation slots are not obstructed.
To perform a factory reset, turn off the flash, then press and hold the 'OK' and 'Mode' buttons simultaneously while turning it back on. This will restore the default settings.
To use high-speed sync (FP mode), press the 'Mode' button until 'FP TTL' or 'FP M' is displayed. This allows the flash to sync with shutter speeds faster than the camera's standard sync speed.
The FL-50R is designed for Olympus cameras with TTL capability. While it may work in manual mode on other brands, TTL and advanced features are likely to be incompatible.
To maintain the FL-50R, regularly clean the contact points on the flash and camera with a soft cloth. Store the flash in a cool, dry place and remove batteries when not in use for extended periods.
