Murray MS18542 Parts Manual

To start the Murray MS18542 tractor, ensure the parking brake is engaged, the PTO is off, and the throttle is in the choke position if the engine is cold. Insert and turn the ignition key clockwise to start the engine.
Check the battery connections for corrosion, ensure the fuel tank has gasoline, and verify that the spark plug is functioning. Also, make sure the safety features like the seat switch are not preventing startup.
It is recommended to change the oil every 50 hours of operation or at the beginning of each mowing season, whichever comes first.
Use SAE 30 oil for general purpose use. For operation at temperatures below 32°F, use SAE 5W-30. Always refer to the user manual for specific recommendations.
Ensure the tractor is turned off and the spark plug wire is disconnected. Lift the mower deck and use a wrench to remove the blade bolt. Replace the blade and secure it with the bolt, ensuring it is tightened to the manufacturer's specifications.
The recommended tire pressure is 14 psi for the front tires and 10 psi for the rear tires. Always check the tire pressure when the tires are cold.
Check if the mower deck is level and adjust if necessary. Also, inspect the blades for sharpness and replace or sharpen them if they are dull. Ensure the tire pressure is even on both sides.
Clean the mower deck, change the oil, remove fuel or add a stabilizer to the tank, and check all nuts and bolts for tightness. Store the tractor in a dry place.
Keep the battery terminals clean and free from corrosion, ensure the battery is fully charged before storing the tractor for long periods, and store it in a cool, dry location.
Check the blades for balance and damage, inspect the engine mounting bolts, and ensure that the pulley and belt are in good condition. Replace any damaged or worn components.
