To start the Murray M1338 Tractor, ensure the parking brake is engaged, the PTO is off, and the throttle is set to the choke position. Turn the ignition key to the start position until the engine fires, then release it immediately.
Use unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. Avoid using ethanol-blended fuels greater than 10% ethanol.
First, ensure the battery terminals are clean and tight. Check the alternator belt for proper tension. If the problem persists, test the voltage regulator and alternator for faults.
Regular maintenance includes checking the oil level before each use, changing the oil every 50 hours, inspecting the air filter every 25 hours, and replacing the spark plug annually.
Uneven mowing can be caused by a dull blade, improper tire pressure, or an uneven deck. Sharpen the blade, check tire pressures, and ensure the deck is level.
Locate the adjustment lever on the deck. Move the lever to the desired height position. Make sure the tractor is on a level surface when making adjustments.
Stop the tractor and allow it to cool. Check the engine cooling fins for debris. Ensure there is adequate engine oil and coolant. Consider checking the radiator and fan for blockages.
To replace the drive belt, first disconnect the spark plug. Remove the deck and belt guards. Slide the belt off the pulleys and replace it with a new one, ensuring proper routing. Reassemble all parts.
Clean the tractor thoroughly, change the oil, drain the fuel or use a fuel stabilizer, remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry place, and cover the tractor to protect it from elements.
Remove the air filter cover, take out the filter, and if it's a paper filter, gently tap it to remove debris. For foam filters, wash it with mild detergent and water, rinse, dry, and lightly oil it before reinstalling.
