To start the Murray 42917x8A Tractor, ensure the parking brake is engaged, the PTO is off, and the gear shift lever is in the neutral position. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the start position until the engine starts.
Use SAE 30 oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and SAE 10W-30 for temperatures below 32°F (0°C). Always check the oil level before each use.
To change the blades, first disconnect the spark plug wire to prevent accidental starting. Raise the mower deck to its highest position, then use a wrench to remove the blade bolts. Replace with new blades, ensuring they are securely tightened.
If the tractor won't start, check the battery connections, ensure the fuel tank has gas, and that the spark plug is clean. Also, verify that the safety switches are in the correct position.
Regular maintenance includes checking and changing the oil, replacing air filters, inspecting belts, checking tire pressure, and ensuring blades are sharp. Refer to the user manual for the maintenance schedule.
To adjust the mower deck height, locate the lever on the right side of the tractor. Move the lever to the desired height position. Ensure the deck is level from side to side.
Uneven cutting can be caused by dull blades, an unlevel deck, or tire pressure discrepancies. Check and rectify these issues to resolve the problem.
The air filter should be checked before each mowing session and replaced every 25 hours of operation or more frequently in dusty conditions.
The recommended tire pressure is 14 PSI for the front tires and 10 PSI for the rear tires. Regularly check tire pressures to ensure optimal performance.
To store the tractor for winter, clean it thoroughly, perform all maintenance, drain the fuel or add a fuel stabilizer, and remove the battery. Store it in a dry, covered area.
