To change the oil, first warm up the engine, then turn it off and disconnect the spark plug. Remove the oil drain plug and allow the old oil to drain completely. Replace the drain plug and refill with the recommended type and quantity of oil.
Use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of at least 87. Avoid using gasoline that contains more than 10% ethanol to prevent engine damage.
Ensure the tractor is turned off and the spark plug is disconnected. Tilt the mower deck to access the blade. Use a wrench to remove the blade bolt, then replace the old blade with a new one. Secure it with the bolt and ensure it is properly tightened.
Check to ensure the battery is charged, the fuel tank has gasoline, and the spark plug is clean and properly connected. Also, inspect the air filter for clogs and ensure the safety switches are engaged.
Sharpen the blades at least once per mowing season, or more frequently if the mower is used extensively. Dull blades can tear grass, leading to an uneven cut and potential lawn damage.
Clean the mower thoroughly, change the oil, and remove the battery for indoor storage. Add fuel stabilizer to a full tank of gas and run the engine for a few minutes. Store the tractor in a dry, sheltered location.
Locate the cutting height adjustment lever on the mower deck. Move the lever to the desired position to raise or lower the cutting height. Ensure the deck is level for an even cut.
Check for loose or damaged blades and ensure they are balanced. Inspect the mower deck and engine mounts for any signs of wear or damage. Tighten any loose bolts and replace damaged parts as needed.
Remove the air filter cover and take out the filter. If it's a foam filter, wash it with warm, soapy water, then dry and saturate with clean engine oil. For paper filters, tap gently to remove dirt or replace if heavily soiled. Reinstall the filter and cover.
An uneven cut could be due to a misaligned deck, dull blades, or improper tire pressure. Check the deck alignment and adjust as necessary, sharpen or replace blades, and ensure all tires are inflated to the correct pressure.
