Ensure the tractor is on a flat surface. Check that the parking brake is engaged, the PTO switch is off, and the throttle is set to the choke position. Turn the ignition key to the start position and hold until the engine starts.
Use SAE 30 motor oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C). For temperatures below 32°F (0°C), use SAE 5W-30 or 10W-30. Ensure to regularly check the oil level and change it according to the maintenance schedule.
Check the battery connections for corrosion or looseness. Ensure the fuel tank has gas and the fuel valve is open. Examine the spark plug for wear and replace it if necessary. Verify that the air filter is clean.
Disconnect the spark plug wire for safety. Remove the mower deck and locate the drive belt. Note the belt routing, then remove the old belt. Install the new belt following the routing pattern and reattach the mower deck.
Regularly inspect the blades for nicks and dullness. Sharpen or replace them as needed. Always disconnect the spark plug wire before servicing. Ensure the blades are balanced after sharpening to prevent vibration.
Remove the air filter cover and take out the air filter. If it’s a foam filter, wash it in mild detergent and water, then allow it to dry. If it’s a paper filter, gently tap it to remove dirt or replace if heavily soiled.
Locate the height adjustment lever on the side of the tractor. Move the lever to the desired position to raise or lower the cutting deck. Ensure both sides are adjusted equally for an even cut.
Check the blades for damage or imbalance. Examine the drive belt for wear and proper tension. Inspect the engine mounting bolts and tighten if necessary. Vibration can also indicate a damaged spindle or pulley.
The spark plug should be inspected and cleaned every 25 hours of operation and replaced every 100 hours or annually, whichever comes first. Always use the correct type of spark plug for your model.
For optimal performance, maintain the front tires at 14 psi and the rear tires at 10 psi. Check tire pressure regularly and adjust as needed to ensure even cutting and proper traction.
