First, warm up the engine for a few minutes to thin the oil. Turn off the engine and ensure the tractor is on a level surface. Remove the oil fill cap and place a suitable container under the oil drain plug. Remove the drain plug and allow the oil to fully drain. Replace the drain plug, add new oil through the fill cap, and check the level with the dipstick.
Check the battery connections to ensure they are clean and tight. Verify that the battery is charged. Check the fuel level and ensure the fuel valve is open. Inspect the spark plug for wear or damage, and replace if necessary. Ensure the choke is engaged if the engine is cold.
Make sure the tire pressure is equal on all sides. Inspect the mower deck for any obstructions or damage. Ensure the blades are sharp and properly balanced. Adjust the deck height and leveling according to the manual.
Regular maintenance includes checking and changing the oil every 50 hours of operation, cleaning or replacing the air filter every 25 hours, sharpening blades as needed, and inspecting belts and cables for wear. Refer to the owner's manual for a detailed maintenance schedule.
First, disengage the mower blades and turn off the engine. Lower the mower deck to the lowest position. Remove the belt guards and note the belt routing. Remove the old belt from the pulleys and install the new belt following the same path. Reinstall the belt guards and ensure everything is secure.
Use unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. Avoid fuels with more than 10% ethanol as they can cause damage to the engine components.
Ensure the tires are properly inflated and in good condition. Consider using tire chains or weights for added traction. Always mow up and down slopes, not across, and reduce speed when descending.
Ensure the cooling fins are clean and free of debris. Check the engine oil level and top up if necessary. Inspect the air filter and clean or replace if blocked. Make sure the cooling fan is operational and not obstructed.
Clean the tractor thoroughly, removing all grass and debris. Change the oil and oil filter. Add a fuel stabilizer to the fuel tank and run the engine for a few minutes. Disconnect the battery and store it in a cool, dry place. Cover the tractor and store it in a dry, sheltered area.
Inspect the blades for damage or imbalance and sharpen or replace as necessary. Check the blade spindles and deck pulleys for wear. Ensure all bolts and fasteners are tight. Examine the belts for signs of wear or damage.
