To start the Murray 42537A Tractor, ensure the parking brake is engaged, the PTO is disengaged, and the gear lever is in neutral. Turn the ignition key clockwise to the start position until the engine fires, then release the key.
If the tractor won't start, check the battery connections, ensure there is fuel, and verify the spark plug is clean and properly gapped. Also, ensure the safety switches are engaged.
Change the oil every 50 hours of operation or at the start of each mowing season, whichever comes first. Use SAE 30 oil for optimal performance.
Use unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol content to prevent engine damage.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the height adjustment lever on the mower deck. Move the lever to the desired position, ensuring both sides are adjusted evenly for a uniform cut.
Regular maintenance tasks include checking and changing the oil, cleaning the air filter, inspecting belts, and sharpening the blades. Also, lubricate moving parts and check tire pressure regularly.
Uneven cutting can be caused by dull blades, uneven tire pressure, or an unlevel mower deck. Sharpen the blades, check tire pressure, and adjust the deck height as necessary.
If the blades won't engage, check the PTO switch and ensure it is functioning correctly. Inspect the drive belts for wear or damage and replace them if necessary.
To store the tractor safely, clean it thoroughly, change the oil, and add a fuel stabilizer to the tank. Disconnect the battery and store it in a cool, dry place. Cover the tractor to protect it from dust and moisture.
If the tractor is overheating, check for debris blocking the air intake or cooling fins. Ensure the oil level is adequate and the air filter is clean. Allow the tractor to cool down before continuing use.
