To start the Murray 42534A Tractor, ensure the parking brake is engaged, the PTO is disengaged, and the gear shift is in the neutral position. Turn the ignition key to the start position until the engine fires up, then release it to the run position.
Use SAE 30 motor oil for the engine when operating at temperatures above 32°F (0°C). For temperatures below that, a 5W-30 or 10W-30 oil is recommended. Always check the owner's manual for specific oil recommendations.
It is recommended to change the engine oil after the first 5 hours of operation, and then every 50 hours of operation or once per season, whichever comes first.
If the tractor won't start, check the battery connections, ensure the fuel tank has fuel, and verify that the spark plug is clean and properly gapped. Also, make sure the safety switches are engaged.
Check if the mower deck is level from side to side and front to back. Inspect the blades for sharpness and damage. Uneven tire pressure can also affect cutting, so ensure all tires are inflated to the manufacturer’s specifications.
Clean the tractor thoroughly, change the oil, and remove the battery for storage in a cool, dry place. Add a fuel stabilizer to the fuel tank and run the engine for a few minutes to circulate the stabilizer. Store the tractor in a dry, covered location.
To replace the drive belt, disconnect the battery, remove the mower deck, and locate the belt around the pulleys and engine drive shaft. Follow the belt routing diagram in the manual, remove the old belt, and install the new one, ensuring it is seated properly in all pulleys.
Excessive vibration can be caused by an unbalanced blade, loose hardware, or worn engine mounts. Check and tighten any loose parts, inspect the blades for balance, and replace any damaged components.
Use a tire pressure gauge to check each tire's pressure and compare it to the recommended PSI found in the manual or on the tire sidewall. Use an air compressor to adjust the pressure, adding air if needed or releasing air if overinflated.
Regular maintenance includes checking the oil level, cleaning or replacing the air filter, sharpening the blades, checking tire pressure, inspecting belts, and lubricating all moving parts as per the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual.
