To change the oil, first, warm up the engine for a few minutes to thin the oil, allowing it to drain smoothly. Shut off the engine and remove the oil drain plug located underneath the engine. Let the oil drain completely into a suitable container. Replace the drain plug and refill the engine with the recommended oil type and quantity.
It is recommended to use SAE 30 oil for the Murray 40910B Tractor in temperatures above 32°F (0°C). For temperatures below 32°F (0°C), use 10W-30 oil. Always check the owner's manual for any specific oil requirements.
First, disconnect the spark plug wire. Use a spark plug wrench to remove the old spark plug. Check the gap of the new spark plug with a feeler gauge and adjust if necessary. Install the new spark plug by threading it in by hand and then tightening it with the spark plug wrench. Reattach the spark plug wire.
Check the following: ensure the fuel tank has fresh gasoline, the spark plug is in good condition, the battery is fully charged, and the air filter is clean. If the problem persists, it may be a more complex issue requiring professional service.
Disconnect the spark plug wire for safety. Remove the mower deck and then the blades. Use a blade sharpener or a metal file to sharpen the cutting edge of each blade. Ensure the blades are balanced before reinstalling them onto the mower deck.
Check if the mower deck is level. Make adjustments if necessary. Also, inspect the blades to ensure they are sharp and not damaged. Uneven tire pressure can also cause uneven cutting, so check and adjust the tire pressure.
Regular maintenance should be performed at the start and end of each mowing season. This includes changing the oil, replacing the spark plug, cleaning or replacing the air filter, sharpening the blades, and checking the battery and tire pressure.
The recommended tire pressure is typically 10 PSI for the front tires and 14 PSI for the rear tires. Always refer to the owner's manual for the most accurate specifications.
Remove the air filter cover and take out the air filter. If it's a paper filter, gently tap it to remove debris or replace it if it's too dirty. For foam filters, wash with mild soap and warm water, allow it to dry, and then lightly oil it before reinstalling.
Check the battery terminals for corrosion and clean them if necessary. Ensure the battery is filled with the proper level of electrolyte. If the battery is old or damaged, it may need to be replaced. Consider using a battery maintainer to keep it charged when not in use.
