To start the Murray 40908x70B tractor, ensure the parking brake is set, the PTO is disengaged, and the transmission is in neutral. Turn the ignition key to the start position until the engine starts, then release.
Use SAE 30 oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and SAE 5W-30 for colder conditions to ensure proper lubrication and performance.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use, then every 50 hours or at the beginning of each season. Regular oil changes prolong engine life.
Check the battery connections, ensure there is fresh fuel, and verify the spark plug is clean. Inspect the air filter for obstructions and confirm the safety switches are engaged.
Ensure the tractor is on level ground, engage the parking brake, and the engine is at the proper speed. Pull the PTO switch or lever to engage and disengage as needed.
Regularly clean the deck to prevent grass buildup, check and sharpen blades, and ensure the deck is level for an even cut. Lubricate moving parts as specified in the manual.
Uneven cutting can be caused by a misleveled deck, dull blades, or improper tire pressure. Check and adjust these components to correct the issue.
Check for debris in the blades, ensure the blades are balanced and properly installed, and inspect the belt for wear or damage. Tighten any loose components.
Clean the tractor thoroughly, change the oil, add fuel stabilizer, and remove the battery for storage. Store in a dry location, preferably covered to protect from dust and moisture.
Disconnect the spark plug wire, use a spark plug wrench to remove the old plug, and install a new plug with the correct gap. Reattach the spark plug wire securely.
