To start the Murray 40900x20D Tractor, ensure the parking brake is engaged, the PTO switch is off, and the transmission is in neutral. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the 'Start' position until the engine fires up, then release the key.
The recommended maintenance schedule includes checking and changing the oil every 50 hours of operation, inspecting the air filter every 25 hours, and replacing the fuel filter annually. Regularly check tire pressure and sharpen blades as needed.
If the tractor won't start, check the battery connections for corrosion, ensure fuel is reaching the engine, and verify that the safety switches are functioning correctly. Also, inspect the spark plug for wear or damage.
Use SAE 30 motor oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C). For temperatures below 32°F (0°C), use SAE 5W-30 to ensure proper lubrication.
Before storing the tractor for the winter, clean the exterior, change the oil, add a fuel stabilizer, and remove the battery. Store the battery in a cool, dry place and cover the tractor to protect it from dust and moisture.
If the blades are not cutting evenly, check if the blades are sharp and balanced. Inspect the deck level and adjust if necessary. Ensure the tires are properly inflated and that there is no debris obstructing the blades.
To improve fuel efficiency, regularly maintain the engine by changing the oil and filters, keep the tires properly inflated, and operate the tractor at optimal speeds. Avoid excessive idling and ensure the blades are sharp for efficient cutting.
If the transmission is slipping, check the drive belt for wear or damage and replace it if necessary. Ensure the clutch is adjusted correctly and inspect the transmission fluid level, topping up if needed.
To replace the spark plug, first disconnect the spark plug wire. Use a spark plug wrench to remove the old plug, then install a new one with the correct gap specification. Reattach the spark plug wire securely.
When operating the tractor, always wear appropriate safety gear, such as hearing protection and sturdy footwear. Be cautious on slopes, avoid operating in wet conditions, and keep bystanders at a safe distance. Regularly check safety features like brakes and lights.
