Murray 40900x20C Parts Manual

To change the oil, first warm up the engine to ensure the oil drains out smoothly. Turn off the engine and remove the key. Place a pan under the engine's oil plug, remove the plug, and let the oil drain. Replace the plug and refill the engine with the recommended oil type and quantity.
If the tractor won't start, check the battery connections and ensure they are clean and tight. Verify that the fuel tank is not empty and the fuel valve is open. Also, check the spark plug for wear or damage and replace if necessary.
Blades should be sharpened after every 20-25 hours of use or if you notice uneven or torn grass blades. Regular sharpening ensures a clean cut and maintains lawn health.
Use unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. Avoid using fuel with more than 10% ethanol content to prevent engine performance issues.
To clean the air filter, remove the cover and take out the filter. If it's a paper filter, gently tap it to remove debris. For foam filters, wash with soap and water, let it dry, then apply a light coat of engine oil before reinstalling.
Before storing, clean the tractor thoroughly, change the oil, and add a fuel stabilizer to the gas tank. Disconnect the battery and store it in a cool, dry place. Finally, cover the tractor to protect it from dust and moisture.
Adjust the cutting height by using the lever located near the driver's seat. Move the lever to the desired position to raise or lower the mower deck to the appropriate cutting height.
Excessive vibration may be due to unbalanced or damaged blades. Check for debris caught in the blades or under the deck. Inspect the blades for damage and balance them if necessary. Tighten any loose bolts or nuts on the tractor.
To improve traction on wet grass, consider using tire chains or wheel weights. Reducing tire pressure slightly can also increase contact with the ground. Ensure the tires are not worn out and have adequate tread.
To check the transmission fluid, park the tractor on a level surface and remove the transmission fluid dipstick. Wipe it clean, reinsert, and remove again to check the level. Add fluid as necessary, using the type specified in the owner's manual.
