To start the Murray 40706B Tractor, ensure that the parking brake is engaged, the gear shift lever is in neutral, and the throttle is set to the choke position if the engine is cold. Turn the ignition key to the start position until the engine starts, then release the key.
Check if the fuel tank has gasoline and that the fuel valve is open. Ensure the battery is charged and the spark plug is clean and properly gapped. Also, verify that the air filter is not clogged.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use, and then every 25 hours of operation or at the beginning of each season. Use SAE 30 oil for best performance.
Regular maintenance includes checking and changing the oil, cleaning or replacing the air filter, checking tire pressure, sharpening blades, and inspecting belts for wear and tear.
First, disconnect the spark plug wire for safety. Lift the tractor to access the mower deck. Use a wrench to loosen the blade bolts, remove the old blades, and attach the new blades. Ensure they are properly secured before lowering the tractor.
Excessive vibration may be caused by unbalanced or damaged blades. Inspect the blades for damage and balance, and replace them if necessary. Also, check for loose bolts or debris lodged in the mower deck.
Ensure the tire pressures are equal and that the mower deck is level. Check if the blades are sharp and not worn. Adjust the deck height settings as needed to ensure even cutting.
Check the alternator belt for tension and condition. Ensure the battery terminals are clean and tight. If the problem persists, the alternator or voltage regulator may need to be inspected by a professional.
Remove the air filter cover, take out the air filter, and clean it with warm soapy water. Allow it to dry completely before reinstalling. If the filter is damaged or excessively dirty, replace it with a new one.
Check the transmission fluid level and ensure it is at the correct level. Inspect the drive belt for wear or damage and replace it if necessary. If the issue persists, consult a professional technician.
