To start the Murray 40504x92A Tractor, ensure the parking brake is engaged, the PTO is off, and the throttle is set to 'fast'. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the start position. Release the key once the engine starts.
If the engine won't start, check the battery connections for corrosion, ensure the fuel tank has fresh gasoline, and verify that the spark plug is functioning. Also, make sure the safety features are not preventing startup.
It's recommended to change the oil every 50 hours of operation or at the start of each mowing season, whichever comes first.
Check if the mower deck is level and if the blades are sharp. Also, ensure that the tire pressure is equal on both sides and that the deck is not clogged with grass clippings.
Use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol content.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the cutting height adjustment lever on the side of the tractor. Move the lever to the desired position corresponding to the preferred grass height.
Before storing for winter, clean the mower deck, change the oil, remove the battery, and add a fuel stabilizer to the gasoline. Store the tractor in a cool, dry place.
First, disconnect the spark plug wire. Remove the mower deck and then the belt covers. Release the tension on the belt and remove it from the pulleys. Install the new belt following the same path, ensure it is seated properly on all pulleys, and reassemble the tractor.
Excessive vibration can be caused by imbalanced or damaged blades. Check the blades for damage and balance them if necessary. Also, inspect the drive belt and pulleys for wear or damage.
To improve traction, ensure the tires are properly inflated, consider using tire chains, and add weight to the rear of the tractor if necessary. Adjusting the tire pressure slightly lower can also improve grip.
