To start the Murray 38715B Tractor, ensure the brake is engaged and the gear lever is in neutral. Turn the ignition key to the 'start' position and hold it until the engine starts. Release the key once the engine is running.
Use SAE 30 motor oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and SAE 5W-30 for temperatures below that. Check your user manual for more details on oil specifications.
Check the mower deck belt for wear or damage. Ensure the PTO (Power Take-Off) switch is engaged. Inspect the wiring and connections to the PTO clutch.
Perform an oil change every 50 hours of operation, clean or replace the air filter every 25 hours, and sharpen or replace mower blades as needed. Regularly check tire pressure and battery condition.
Disconnect the spark plug wire, then use a spark plug wrench to remove the old spark plug. Install the new spark plug by hand to avoid cross-threading, then tighten with the wrench and reconnect the spark plug wire.
Check the air filter for dirt and debris, ensure the fuel is fresh, and inspect the spark plug for wear. Cleaning or replacing these components may resolve the issue.
Locate the cutting height adjustment lever, typically found on the side of the mower deck. Move the lever to the desired position, ranging from 1 to 4 inches.
Ensure the mower blades are sharp and properly installed. Check the deck for any obstructions and confirm that the cutting height is set uniformly across the deck.
Keep the battery terminals clean and free of corrosion. Charge the battery regularly, especially during off-season storage. Avoid over-discharging the battery by turning off the engine when not in use.
Check the drive belt for wear or damage and ensure it is properly tensioned. Verify that the transmission is not in bypass mode. Consult the manual for further diagnostics if the issue persists.
