The recommended oil type for the Murray 38711x42A tractor is SAE 30 for temperatures above 32°F and SAE 5W-30 for temperatures below 32°F.
To change the blades, first ensure the tractor is on a flat surface, remove the spark plug wire for safety, lift the deck to its highest position, and use a wrench to remove the bolt holding the blade. Replace with a new blade and tighten the bolt securely.
If the tractor won't start, check the battery connections, ensure the fuel valve is open, verify there is enough fuel, check the spark plug for any signs of wear, and ensure the PTO is disengaged.
Regular maintenance should be performed at the start of each mowing season, including checking oil levels, air filter, spark plug, and inspecting blades for sharpness and damage.
The correct tire pressure for the front tires is 14 PSI, and for the rear tires, it is 10 PSI.
To improve cutting performance, ensure blades are sharp, deck is clean from debris, and mowing speed is appropriate for grass conditions. Adjust the deck height according to the grass length and type.
Excessive vibration can be caused by unbalanced blades, loose parts, or debris stuck in the mower deck. Check and tighten all bolts and nuts, inspect the blades for balance and damage, and clear any debris from the deck.
Remove the air filter cover, take out the air filter, and gently clean it with warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and allow it to dry completely before reinstalling. Replace if it is excessively dirty or damaged.
If the mower deck won't engage, check the PTO engagement cable for proper operation, ensure the belt is not damaged or slipped off the pulleys, and check for any electrical issues with the PTO switch.
To store the tractor over winter, clean it thoroughly, ensure all moving parts are lubricated, drain or stabilize the fuel, remove the battery and store it in a cool dry place, and cover the tractor to protect it from dust and moisture.
