To start the Murray 385009x98A Tractor, ensure the parking brake is engaged, the PTO is disengaged, and the throttle is set to the choke position. Insert the key and turn it to the start position until the engine fires up.
First, check the fuel level and ensure the fuel valve is open. Verify the battery is charged and all connections are clean and tight. Additionally, inspect the spark plug for wear and replace if necessary.
It is recommended to change the oil after the first 5 hours of use and then every 50 hours of operation or at the beginning of each season.
Use SAE 30 oil for temperatures above freezing (32°F/0°C) or SAE 5W-30 for colder temperatures. Always check the engine's manual for specific recommendations.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the height adjustment lever on the right side of the operator's seat. Move the lever to the desired height setting. Ensure the tractor is on a level surface before making adjustments.
Uneven cutting can be caused by dull blades, incorrect tire pressure, or improperly leveled deck. Make sure the blades are sharp, tires are inflated to the recommended pressure, and the deck is level.
Regularly check the battery terminals for corrosion and clean them as needed. Keep the battery charged, especially during the off-season, and store it in a cool, dry place.
Check the PTO switch and ensure it is in the 'Engage' position. Inspect the belts for wear or damage and replace if necessary. Additionally, check the electrical connections for the PTO switch and clutch.
To clean the mower deck, safely park the tractor on a level surface, disengage the PTO, and remove the ignition key. Use a garden hose to spray the underside of the deck, being cautious around belts and pulleys.
Clean the tractor thoroughly and perform maintenance such as changing the oil and lubricating moving parts. Remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry place. Add a fuel stabilizer to the fuel tank and run the engine for a few minutes to circulate it.
