Murray 31720x51B Parts Manual

To start the Murray 31720x51B Tractor, ensure the parking brake is engaged, the transmission is in neutral, and the throttle lever is in the 'Fast' position. Turn the ignition key clockwise to the 'Start' position until the engine starts, then release the key.
If the tractor won't start, check the battery connections for corrosion or looseness. Ensure the fuel tank is not empty. Inspect the spark plug for damage and replace it if necessary. Verify that the safety switches are functioning properly.
To change the oil, run the engine for a few minutes to warm it up. Turn off the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire. Remove the oil drain plug and allow the oil to drain completely. Replace the drain plug and fill with new oil according to the specifications in the manual.
The Murray 31720x51B Tractor is designed to run on unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol.
Blades should be sharpened at least once per mowing season, or more frequently if you notice uneven cutting or tearing of grass. Regular inspection after every 8-10 hours of use is recommended.
Excessive vibration in the cutting deck could be caused by unbalanced or damaged blades. Check for debris wrapped around the blades or spindles. Inspect the blades for damage and balance, and replace if necessary.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the height adjustment lever, usually positioned by the driver's seat. Move the lever to the desired cutting height setting, ensuring it's securely locked in one of the preset positions.
Before storing the tractor, clean it thoroughly and run the engine to empty the fuel tank or add a fuel stabilizer. Change the oil and remove the battery to store it in a cool, dry place. Inflate the tires to the recommended pressure and cover the tractor.
To replace the spark plug, first disconnect the spark plug wire. Use a spark plug wrench to remove the old spark plug. Check the gap on the new spark plug and adjust if necessary, then install it and reconnect the spark plug wire.
Overheating may be caused by a clogged air filter, low engine oil, or debris obstructing the air intake. Ensure the cooling fins are clean and the oil level is correct. Replace the air filter if it appears dirty or clogged.
