Basic maintenance tasks include regularly checking and changing the oil, inspecting and replacing the air filter, sharpening the blades, checking tire pressure, and lubricating moving parts.
First, check the battery connections and charge. Ensure the fuel tank is not empty and the fuel is fresh. Inspect the spark plug for wear or damage, and check the air filter for blockages.
Check the mower deck belt for wear or damage and ensure it is properly tensioned. Inspect the PTO switch and connections, and verify that the blades are not obstructed.
Warm up the engine, then turn it off. Remove the oil drain plug and allow the oil to drain into a pan. Replace the plug, refill with new oil, and check the oil level using the dipstick.
Use SAE 30 oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and SAE 5W-30 for temperatures below 32°F (0°C). Always refer to the owner's manual for the best recommendations.
Regularly sharpen the blades and ensure they are balanced. Adjust the cutting height appropriately for your lawn and mow when the grass is dry.
Excessive vibration can result from unbalanced or damaged blades, loose parts, or engine mounting issues. Inspect these components and tighten or replace as necessary.
Remove the air filter cover, take out the old filter, and insert a new one. Ensure it is seated properly and replace the cover securely.
Clean the tractor thoroughly, check for any needed repairs, change the oil, disconnect the battery, and store it in a dry, sheltered location. Consider using a fuel stabilizer to prevent fuel degradation.
Locate the cutting height adjustment lever on the tractor. Move it to the desired position, ensuring it's securely locked into place for consistent cutting height.
