To perform routine maintenance, check the oil level before each use and change the oil every 50 hours of operation. Clean or replace the air filter every 25 hours and inspect the spark plug for wear, replacing it annually or every 100 hours.
If the engine won't start, ensure that the fuel tank has fresh gasoline and the fuel valve is open. Check the spark plug for fouling and ensure the air filter is clean. Also, inspect the ignition switch and wiring for any damage.
If the engine runs rough, check for a clogged air filter or fouled spark plug. Inspect the fuel system for leaks or blockages and ensure the carburetor is adjusted properly. Regularly clean the cooling fins to prevent overheating.
Use SAE 10W-30 oil for general use or SAE 5W-30 for colder temperatures below 32°F (0°C). Ensure the oil is classified SJ or higher according to the API rating.
To adjust the carburetor, locate the adjustment screws and turn them slowly to achieve a smooth idle. Adjust the idle speed screw for a stable RPM, then fine-tune the mixture screw for optimal performance.
The correct spark plug gap for the Kohler HD675 engine is 0.030 inches (0.76 mm). Use a feeler gauge to check and adjust the gap as necessary.
Replace the air filter every 25 hours of operation or more frequently if used in dusty conditions. Clean the air filter regularly to ensure optimal engine performance.
Overheating can be caused by a dirty air filter, clogged cooling fins, or insufficient oil levels. Ensure that the cooling system is clean and unobstructed, and check the oil level regularly.
To winterize the engine, drain the fuel system or add a fuel stabilizer. Change the oil and remove the spark plug, adding a teaspoon of oil into the cylinder before replacing it. Store the engine in a dry, clean area.
For long-term storage, drain the fuel tank and carburetor, change the oil, and remove the spark plug. Add a small amount of oil to the cylinder, replace the spark plug, and store the engine in a dry, covered area.
