Use SAE 10W-30 oil for general use in the Kohler FCH749 engine. For temperatures below freezing, SAE 5W-20 or 5W-30 is recommended.
The air filter should be checked every 25 hours of operation and replaced every 100 hours, or more frequently if operating in dusty conditions.
The recommended spark plug for the Kohler FCH749 engine is Champion RC12YC or an equivalent.
Ensure the fuel tank is full, the spark plug is clean and properly gapped, and that the air filter is clean. Check the battery connections and charge if necessary.
To change the oil, warm up the engine, remove the drain plug, and allow the oil to drain completely. Replace the drain plug, and refill with new oil. Dispose of the used oil properly.
Regularly check the cooling fins for debris and clean them using compressed air or a soft brush. Ensure that the cooling fan is unobstructed and functioning properly.
Stop the engine immediately and allow it to cool. Check for debris around the cooling fins and ensure proper oil levels. Inspect the air intake for blockages.
Adjust the carburetor by turning the idle speed screw and the idle mixture screw. Consult the service manual for specific settings based on environmental conditions.
Perform routine checks every 25 hours, including oil level and air filter inspection. Change the oil and filter every 100 hours, and inspect the spark plug every 200 hours.
Run the engine until it is out of fuel, change the oil, and remove the spark plug. Add a tablespoon of oil into the cylinder, turn the engine a few times, and replace the spark plug. Store in a clean, dry place.
