To start the Jonsered CS2172 chainsaw, ensure the chain brake is engaged, switch on the ignition, set the choke to the closed position, press the decompression valve, and pull the starter handle until the engine fires. Then, set the choke to open and pull the starter again until the engine runs smoothly.
Ensure the chainsaw is turned off and cooled. Loosen the bar nuts slightly, adjust the tensioning screw until the chain fits snugly against the bar but can still be pulled around by hand, then tighten the bar nuts securely.
Clean the air filter after every 5 hours of use or more frequently if operating in a dusty environment. Remove the filter cover, take out the filter, and clean it with warm soapy water. Rinse and let it dry completely before reinstalling.
Use a 50:1 ratio of unleaded gasoline to high-quality two-stroke engine oil. Mix thoroughly before filling the chainsaw’s fuel tank.
Check the fuel for proper mix and freshness, ensure the spark plug is clean and has the correct gap, inspect the air filter for clogs, and ensure the choke is set properly. If issues persist, it may require professional servicing.
Check if the chain is dull or damaged. Sharpen the chain with a round file or replace it if necessary. Verify the chain tension and ensure proper lubrication to facilitate smooth cutting.
Remove the top cover, disconnect the spark plug wire, and use a spark plug wrench to remove the old plug. Install the new spark plug with the correct gap, tighten it securely, and reattach the spark plug wire.
Clean the chainsaw thoroughly, empty the fuel tank, and run the engine until it stalls to clear the carburetor. Remove the chain and bar, and store them separately. Keep the chainsaw in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight.
Regularly check and tighten screws and nuts, inspect the chain brake function, clean the air filter, check the chain tension and sharpness, and lubricate the chain and bar guide.
Replace the chain if it shows signs of excessive wear, cannot be properly sharpened, or if the cutting performance does not improve after sharpening. Inspect for bent or broken links as indicators for replacement.
