The recommended fuel mix ratio is 50:1, which means 2.6 ounces of two-stroke oil per gallon of unleaded gasoline.
To tension the chain, loosen the bar nuts slightly, adjust the tensioning screw until the chain is snug against the bar but can still be rotated by hand, then retighten the bar nuts.
Regular maintenance includes checking and cleaning the air filter, inspecting the spark plug, sharpening the chain, and cleaning the guide bar.
If the chainsaw won't start, check the fuel level, inspect the spark plug for fouling, and ensure the choke is set correctly. Also, make sure the on/off switch is in the 'on' position.
Use a round file of the correct diameter for your chain, maintain the correct filing angle, and file each cutter evenly until sharp. Ensure the depth gauges are also filed to the correct height.
The air filter should be checked and cleaned after every 5 hours of operation, and replaced if it shows signs of damage or excessive dirt buildup.
Signs include difficulty cutting, frequent need for sharpening, visible damage or missing teeth on the chain, and excessive vibration during operation.
Remove the chain and clean the guide bar groove with a bar groove cleaner or a thin piece of metal. Ensure the oil holes are clear of debris.
Check the oil tank for blockages, ensure the oil filter is clean, and inspect the oil pump and delivery system for any signs of damage or clogs.
Always wear appropriate safety gear, maintain a firm grip with both hands, avoid cutting above shoulder height, and never operate the chainsaw while fatigued or under the influence of substances.
