Check the fuel level and ensure it is fresh. Verify the spark plug is not fouled and is properly gapped. Make sure the battery is charged and the connections are clean and tight. Inspect the air filter to ensure it's not clogged.
Use SAE 30 motor oil for general use. For cold weather, below 40°F, use SAE 5W-30 or 10W-30 for better start-up.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use, and then every 50 hours of operation or once a season, whichever comes first.
Ensure the mower is off and the key is removed. Safely elevate the mower deck and use a wrench to remove the blade bolt. Replace with a new blade, ensuring it is installed correctly, and tighten the bolt securely.
Regularly check the battery terminals for corrosion and clean them as needed. Ensure the battery is charged, especially before storage, and disconnect it if storing the mower for extended periods.
Check the PTO (Power Take-Off) switch and ensure it is engaged. Inspect the deck belt for wear or damage and replace if necessary. Verify that all safety interlocks are functioning properly.
Locate the deck lift lever on the mower and adjust it to the desired cutting height. Ensure the mower is on a flat surface for accurate adjustment.
Clean the mower to remove grass and debris. Change the oil and air filter. Add fuel stabilizer to a full tank of gas or drain the fuel system completely. Store the battery in a cool, dry place.
Use a tire pressure gauge to check each tire's pressure and inflate to the recommended PSI, typically around 14 PSI for the rear tires and 10 PSI for the front.
Inspect the mower blades for damage or imbalance. Ensure all bolts and screws are tightened. Check the deck belt for wear and replace if necessary.
