Ensure that the tractor is on a flat surface. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the 'Start' position. Ensure the parking brake is engaged and the PTO is disengaged. The engine should start after a few seconds.
Use SAE 30 oil above 40°F and 10W-30 oil for varying temperature ranges. Ensure that the oil is of high quality and meets the API service classification SG-SL.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use, and then every 50 hours or annually, whichever comes first. Regular oil changes increase the longevity of your engine.
Check the battery connections for corrosion, ensure the fuel is fresh, and examine the spark plug for wear. Also, make sure the safety switches are functioning properly.
Ensure the mower deck is level and the blades are sharp. Check for any obstructions in the deck and adjust the tire pressure to be even on all sides.
Check the air filter every 25 hours of operation. Clean it by tapping it gently to remove debris or replace it if it is excessively dirty or damaged.
Stop the engine and allow it to cool. Check the oil level and ensure the cooling fins are clean and unobstructed. Avoid using the tractor in extremely high temperatures.
Locate the cutting height adjustment lever, which is usually on the side of the seat. Move the lever to the desired position, ranging from low to high, to achieve the preferred grass height.
The correct tire pressure is usually listed in the operator's manual. As a general guideline, maintain a tire pressure of around 10 PSI for the front tires and 14 PSI for the rear tires.
Clean the tractor thoroughly, perform all necessary maintenance, and drain or stabilize the fuel. Store it in a dry, sheltered place and disconnect the battery to prevent drainage.
