Briggs & Stratton 40510x50B Parts Manual

To start the tractor, ensure the parking brake is engaged, the PTO is disengaged, and the throttle is set to 'fast'. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the 'start' position. Release the key once the engine starts.
Check that the fuel tank is full and the fuel valve is open. Inspect the spark plug for wear or damage and replace if necessary. Ensure the battery is charged and connections are secure.
It is recommended to change the oil every 50 hours of operation or at the start of each mowing season, whichever comes first. Use SAE 30 oil for optimal performance.
Check the air filter every 25 hours of operation. Clean or replace it if it appears dirty or damaged. A clean air filter ensures efficient engine performance.
Ensure the tire pressures are equal and the blades are sharp and balanced. Check that the deck is level and the cutting height is set evenly on both sides.
Inspect the battery terminals for corrosion and clean them if necessary. Test the battery with a voltmeter; if it reads below 12.6 volts after charging, consider replacing it.
To improve fuel efficiency, ensure regular maintenance like changing the oil, cleaning the air filter, and keeping the blades sharp. Avoid running the engine at full throttle unnecessarily.
Excessive vibration may be caused by unbalanced or dull blades, loose engine mounting bolts, or debris lodged in the mower deck. Check and address these factors to reduce vibration.
To replace the blades, park the tractor on a flat surface and remove the spark plug wire for safety. Use a wrench to remove the blade bolt, then replace the old blade with a new one, ensuring it is properly aligned and secured.
Clean the tractor thoroughly, remove any grass or debris, and change the oil. Add a fuel stabilizer to the gas tank, and store the tractor in a dry, covered area to protect it from the elements.
