Briggs & Stratton 40370x50C Parts Manual

To start the tractor, ensure that the brake is engaged, the PTO switch is off, and the throttle is set to half. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the start position. Once the engine starts, release the key.
If the tractor won't start, check the battery connections for corrosion or looseness, ensure that there is enough fuel, and check the spark plug for wear or damage. Also, verify that the safety switches are not engaged.
To change the oil, run the engine for a few minutes to warm it up. Turn off the engine and remove the oil drain plug to let the old oil drain completely. Replace the plug, add new oil, and check the level with the dipstick.
Use unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol content to prevent engine damage.
Check the tire pressure to ensure they are even, inspect the cutting blades for sharpness and balance, and adjust the deck level if necessary. Also, ensure that the grass is not too wet when mowing.
Regular maintenance includes checking and changing the oil, inspecting and replacing the air filter, sharpening and balancing the blades, checking tire pressure, and cleaning the deck.
Locate the air filter cover and remove it to access the air filter. Take out the old filter, replace it with a new one, and secure the cover back in place. Ensure the new filter is properly seated.
Stop the tractor immediately and turn off the engine. Check for debris blocking the air intake or cooling fins. Ensure that the oil level is adequate and the cooling system is clear of obstructions.
Clean the tractor thoroughly, change the oil, add a fuel stabilizer to the tank, and remove the battery for storage in a dry, cool place. Cover the tractor and store it in a dry, sheltered area.
To improve fuel efficiency, ensure that the engine is properly tuned, the air filter is clean, the tires are inflated to the correct pressure, and the blades are sharp. Avoid mowing wet or excessively tall grass.
