Ensure the parking brake is engaged, the PTO is off, and the throttle is set to 'choke' for a cold start. Turn the ignition key to the start position until the engine fires, then release the key.
Check the fuel level, ensure the battery is fully charged, inspect the spark plug for wear, and verify that the air filter is clean.
Change the oil every 50 hours of operation or at the start of each mowing season, whichever comes first.
Use clean, fresh unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. Do not use gasoline containing more than 10% ethanol.
Check if the mower deck is level, ensure the blades are sharp, and inspect the tire pressure to ensure they are even.
Regular maintenance includes checking and changing the oil, cleaning or replacing the air filter, sharpening blades, and inspecting belts and spark plugs.
Ensure the cooling fins are clean and the engine is not clogged with grass or debris. Check the coolant level if applicable.
Inspect the battery connections for corrosion, ensure the alternator belt is tight, and test the voltage regulator and alternator.
Clean the mower deck and engine, add fuel stabilizer to the fuel tank, and store the tractor in a dry, covered location. Disconnect the battery if storing for an extended period.
Check for loose or damaged parts, including the blades and engine mounts, and ensure the tires are properly inflated.
