Briggs & Stratton 38510x50B Parts Manual

To change the oil, first warm up the engine, then turn it off and disconnect the spark plug. Locate the oil drain plug and place an oil pan underneath it. Remove the plug and allow the oil to drain completely. Replace the drain plug and refill with the recommended oil type and quantity.
If the tractor won't start, check the battery connections for corrosion and ensure they are tight. Verify that there's fuel in the tank and the fuel valve is open. Check the spark plug for wear or damage and replace if necessary. Ensure the choke is in the correct position.
It's recommended to check the air filter every 25 hours of operation and replace it annually or more frequently in dusty conditions. A clean air filter ensures optimal engine performance and longevity.
Use clean, fresh, unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol content as it may damage the engine components.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the cutting height adjustment lever on the tractor. Move the lever to the desired cutting height position. Ensure both sides are adjusted equally for an even cut.
Before storing for winter, clean the tractor thoroughly, change the oil, and remove any debris from the deck. Add a fuel stabilizer to the fuel tank, run the engine for a few minutes, and then disconnect the battery. Store in a dry, sheltered location.
Uneven cutting may be due to a dull blade, incorrect tire pressure, or uneven deck alignment. Sharpen or replace the blade, check and adjust tire pressure, and level the deck by adjusting the deck hanger brackets.
Check if the engine cooling fins and air intake screens are clean and free from debris. Ensure the oil level is correct and that the engine has adequate ventilation. Operating in extremely hot weather may also cause overheating.
To replace the spark plug, first disconnect the spark plug wire. Use a spark plug wrench to remove the old plug. Install the new spark plug, ensuring it is properly gapped, and tighten securely. Reconnect the spark plug wire.
To improve fuel efficiency, regularly maintain the engine by changing the oil, air filter, and spark plug as needed. Ensure the tire pressure is correct and avoid mowing with a clogged deck. Operate at recommended speeds for optimal performance.
