Briggs & Stratton 385002x50C Parts Manual

Ensure the tractor is on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, set the throttle to the choke position, and turn the ignition key to start the engine. Release the key once the engine starts.
Use SAE 30 oil for temperatures above 40°F, and SAE 10W-30 for temperatures below 40°F. Ensure the oil is API classified for service SF, SG, SH, SJ, or higher.
Run the engine for a few minutes to warm the oil, then stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire. Place a pan under the oil drain valve, open the valve, and drain the oil. Refill with new oil and check the level with the dipstick.
Check the fuel level, ensure the spark plug wire is connected, verify the battery charge, and check for any blown fuses. If the problem persists, consult the manual for further troubleshooting steps.
Locate the cutting height adjustment lever, usually found near the seat or on the mower deck. Move the lever to your desired cutting height position.
The air filter should be checked before each use and replaced at least once per mowing season or every 50 hours of operation. Replace sooner if it appears dirty or damaged.
Clean the tractor thoroughly, perform all recommended maintenance, add a fuel stabilizer to the gas tank, and store the tractor in a dry, covered area. Disconnect the battery and keep it in a cool, dry place.
Remove the mower deck and secure it. Use a wrench to remove the blade bolt and blade. Sharpen the blade with a file or a sharpening tool, balancing it to ensure even cutting. Reattach the blade securely.
Check for a bent blade, unbalanced blades, or loose engine mounting bolts. Inspect the belts for wear or damage and replace if necessary. Tighten any loose bolts or nuts.
Disconnect the spark plug wire and use a spark plug wrench to remove the old spark plug. Check the gap of the new spark plug and adjust if necessary. Install the new spark plug and reconnect the spark plug wire.
