To install the Whistler 1710A, mount it on the windshield using the provided suction cups. Ensure it has a clear view of the road. Connect the power cord to the detector and plug it into the car's cigarette lighter socket. Adjust the angle for optimal detection.
Check if the power cord is securely connected and verify that the cigarette lighter socket is functioning. Inspect the fuse in the power cord for any damage and replace it if necessary.
Ensure the detector is properly mounted and away from vehicle electronics that may cause interference. Adjust the sensitivity settings to filter out non-threatening signals. Regularly update the firmware, if applicable.
Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior of the detector. Avoid using harsh chemicals. Regularly check and clean the lens to ensure optimal performance. Store the detector in a cool, dry place when not in use.
Urban areas may have more sources of radar interference such as automatic doors and security systems. Use the "City Mode" on the detector to reduce false alerts.
The Whistler 1710A does not support firmware updates as it is designed to work efficiently with its pre-installed software.
The 'VG-2 Alert' indicates that the radar detector is detecting VG-2 signals, which are used by some law enforcement to identify radar detectors. The Whistler 1710A is designed to alert you when such signals are present.
Ensure the detector is mounted as high on the windshield as possible with a clear view of the road. Avoid obstructions such as windshield wipers or vehicle tinting that may hinder detection.
Check if the bands used in your area are enabled on the detector. Refer to the user manual to enable all necessary bands. Ensure the device is positioned correctly for optimum detection.
Drive past a known speed radar or use a radar gun to verify detection. The detector should alert you when it picks up a radar signal. If it doesn't, check the settings and positioning.
