To install the Whistler 1710, mount the detector on the windshield using the provided suction cups. Ensure it's level with the road for optimal detection. Connect the power cord to the detector and plug it into your vehicle's cigarette lighter or power outlet.
For highway driving, switch the detector to 'Highway' mode to maximize range and sensitivity. In urban areas, use 'City' mode to reduce false alerts from automatic doors and other non-threat signals.
First, check the power connection to ensure it's secure. Verify the fuse in the power cord is intact. Test the power outlet with another device to confirm it’s working. If the issue persists, consult the user manual or contact customer support.
Ensure that the device is set to the appropriate mode (City or Highway). If false alerts continue, adjust the sensitivity settings according to the manual, or try relocating the detector to a different position on the windshield.
Regularly clean the detector’s lens with a soft, lint-free cloth to maintain optimal performance. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials. Check the power cord and mount for wear and replace them if necessary.
The Whistler 1710 is capable of detecting most standard radar and laser signals used in speed enforcement. However, it may not detect some newer or less common technologies. Always stay informed about local enforcement methods.
The "VG-2 Alert" feature detects the presence of VG-2 radar detector detectors, which are used by law enforcement to identify radar detector use. This feature helps you remain undetected.
The Whistler 1710 does not support firmware updates. It is designed to operate efficiently with the installed software. For any significant changes, consider upgrading to a newer model.
Ensure the detector is powered on and set to the correct mode. Check that the lens is clean and unobstructed. If issues persist, test in different locations to rule out environmental factors.
To reset the Whistler 1710, turn off the device, press and hold the power and quiet buttons simultaneously, then turn the device back on. Release the buttons after a few seconds.
