To thread the Singer SISK661, first raise the presser foot and turn the handwheel towards you until the needle is at its highest position. Place the spool of thread on the spool pin, and follow the threading path as indicated on the machine, ensuring the thread passes through the tension discs and needle eye.
If the needle breaks frequently, check if it is correctly inserted and not bent. Ensure you're using the right type and size of needle for the fabric. Also, verify the thread tension is correctly set and that the machine is threaded properly.
Skipping stitches can be caused by a dull or bent needle, incorrect needle size, or improper threading. Re-thread the machine and replace the needle with a new one suitable for your fabric.
Regular maintenance includes dusting the external parts, changing the needle frequently, and oiling the machine as directed in the manual. Remove the bobbin case and clean the shuttle area to prevent lint build-up.
If the fabric is not feeding properly, check the feed dogs to ensure they are raised. Adjust the presser foot pressure and ensure the fabric is positioned correctly. Also, inspect the feed dogs for lint or debris and clean if necessary.
To adjust the tension, use the tension dial located on the front of the machine. Test on a scrap piece of fabric before sewing your project to ensure the tension is set correctly for the thread and fabric type.
Unusual noises may indicate a need for oiling or cleaning. Turn off the machine, remove lint and debris, ensure all screws are tightened, and apply sewing machine oil as per the manual instructions.
To replace the light bulb, unplug the machine and remove the faceplate by unscrewing it. Take out the old bulb and replace it with a new one of the same type and wattage. Reattach the faceplate securely.
To sew buttonholes, attach the buttonhole foot and select the buttonhole stitch. Mark the position on the fabric, place it under the foot, and begin sewing, allowing the machine to complete the buttonhole automatically.
If the bobbin isn't winding properly, ensure the thread is correctly positioned in the bobbin winding tension disc. Check that the bobbin winder spindle is fully engaged, and the bobbin is secured in place.
