To thread the Singer SIK2179, start by raising the presser foot and turning the handwheel towards you to raise the needle to its highest position. Follow the threading path indicated on the machine, ensuring the thread passes through the tension discs and the take-up lever. Finally, thread the needle from front to back.
Check if the needle is inserted correctly and is the right size for your fabric. Ensure that the needle is not bent and replace it if necessary. Verify that the fabric is not being pulled excessively and that the presser foot is appropriate for the task.
Regularly clean the bobbin area and feed dogs using a small brush and soft cloth. Oil the machine with sewing machine oil as per the user manual instructions, typically at the bobbin case and other moving parts. Always unplug the machine before cleaning.
Skipped stitches may be due to a dull or bent needle, incorrect needle size, or improper threading. Re-thread the machine, check the needle, and ensure it is compatible with the fabric. Also, verify the tension settings are correct.
To adjust the tension, use the tension dial on the front of the machine. For heavier fabrics, increase the tension slightly, and for lighter fabrics, decrease it. Always test on a scrap piece of fabric to ensure proper tension.
A loud noise can result from a lack of lubrication, so check if oiling is needed. Ensure there are no thread jams in the bobbin area and that the needle plate is securely fastened. Also, verify that the needle is properly installed.
Raise the presser foot lever to lift the presser foot. Press the presser foot release lever to detach the current foot. Align the new presser foot and lower the presser foot lever to snap it into place.
Ensure the bobbin is inserted correctly and the machine is threaded properly. Check that the needle is not bent and is installed correctly. Re-thread both the upper thread and bobbin, then try again.
Use a size 16/100 or 18/110 needle for denim fabric with the Singer SIK2179. These needles are strong enough to handle thick fabrics without bending or breaking.
Uneven stitches may be caused by incorrect threading, tension issues, or a dull needle. Re-thread the machine, adjust the tension settings, and replace the needle if necessary. Ensure the fabric is feeding evenly.
