To thread the Singer SISC550S, first raise the needle to its highest position. Place the spool of thread on the spool pin and secure it with a spool cap. Follow the threading path guide marked on the machine, ensuring the thread passes through the tension discs and needle eye.
If the machine is skipping stitches, check that the needle is properly inserted and not bent. Ensure you are using the correct needle and thread for your fabric, and rethread the machine, checking for any obstructions or incorrect threading paths.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the bobbin area with a soft brush to remove lint and dust. Occasionally oil the moving parts as per the user manual's instructions. Always unplug the machine before cleaning.
This issue may arise if the bobbin winder is engaged. Disengage the bobbin winder and ensure the handwheel is turned towards you to resume normal sewing.
Ensure the presser foot is lowered and the feed dogs are not disengaged. Adjust the presser foot pressure if necessary, and check that the stitch length is set appropriately for your fabric.
To adjust the tension, use the tension dial located on the front of the machine. Increase tension for tighter stitches or decrease for looser stitches, testing on a fabric scrap until the desired result is achieved.
Needle breakage can be caused by using the wrong needle size, sewing over pins, or incorrect threading. Always use the correct needle for your fabric, remove pins before sewing, and ensure proper machine threading.
To change the needle, first turn off the machine. Loosen the needle clamp screw and remove the old needle. Insert the new needle with the flat side facing the back and tighten the clamp screw securely.
Place the thread spool on the spool pin. Pull the thread and wrap it around the bobbin winder tension disc. Insert the thread end into the bobbin and place the bobbin on the winder spindle. Push the bobbin winder to the right and start the machine to wind the bobbin.
Check the needle and thread compatibility with your fabric, rethread the machine, and adjust the tension settings. Clean the machine to remove lint, and ensure the bobbin is correctly inserted and wound evenly.
