Perkins 1104D Operation Manual

The recommended oil type for the Perkins 1104D engine is SAE 15W-40 that meets API CH-4 or ACEA E5 specifications.
It is recommended to inspect the air filter every 250 hours of operation and replace it every 500 hours or annually, whichever comes first.
Common signs include rough idling, increased fuel consumption, black smoke from the exhaust, and difficulty starting the engine.
To reset the service light, turn the ignition key to the "ON" position without starting the engine, press and hold the reset button on the instrument panel until the light blinks and turns off.
To bleed the fuel system, open the bleed screw on the fuel filter, pump the manual primer until fuel free of air bubbles flows from the bleed screw, then close the screw.
Use a 50/50 mixture of ethylene glycol-based antifreeze and clean water that meets ASTM D6210 or equivalent specifications.
Overheating can be caused by low coolant levels, a faulty thermostat, a blocked radiator, or a malfunctioning water pump.
To check valve clearance, remove the valve cover, rotate the engine to top dead center on the compression stroke of cylinder 1, and use a feeler gauge to measure the clearance between the rocker arm and valve stem.
The fuel filter should be replaced every 500 hours of operation or annually, depending on which comes first.
To improve fuel efficiency, ensure regular maintenance is performed, keep the air filter clean, use the recommended oil, and avoid excessive idling.
