To start the McCulloch TrimMac 251 SST Trimmer, ensure the trimmer is on a flat surface. Set the choke to the 'Start' position, press the primer bulb 6 times, and pull the starter rope until the engine fires. Once it starts, move the choke to the 'Run' position.
Use a mixture of unleaded gasoline and a high-quality 2-stroke engine oil. The recommended ratio is 40:1, which means 3.2 ounces of oil per gallon of gasoline.
To replace the trimmer line, turn off the trimmer and disconnect the spark plug. Unscrew the cap from the trimmer head, remove the old line, and insert a new line of the appropriate length. Follow the directional arrows on the spool for winding.
If the engine won't start, check the fuel tank for adequate fuel and ensure the fuel is fresh. Inspect the spark plug for wear or damage, and clean or replace it if necessary. Also, check the air filter for clogs and clean it if needed.
The air filter should be checked before each use and cleaned after every 5 hours of operation. Replace the air filter if it is damaged or excessively dirty.
Regular maintenance includes checking the air filter, spark plug, and fuel filter. Lubricate moving parts, inspect the trimmer head, and clean the machine after each use. Replace parts as necessary to ensure optimal performance.
To adjust the carburetor, locate the adjustment screws on the side of the carburetor. Turn the low-speed screw clockwise until it stops, then back it out 1.5 turns. Adjust the high-speed screw in the same manner. Fine-tune as necessary to achieve optimal performance.
Frequent line breakage can be caused by using the wrong size of line, hitting hard surfaces, or the line being wound incorrectly. Ensure the line is the correct diameter and avoid contact with hard objects while trimming.
To store the trimmer for winter, empty the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops to clear the carburetor. Clean the trimmer thoroughly, apply a light oil coating to metal parts, and store it in a dry, cool place.
To improve performance, regularly maintain the trimmer by keeping the air filter clean, using fresh fuel, sharpening the cutting blade, and ensuring the spark plug is in good condition. Use the trimmer according to the manual's guidelines.
