Ensure the fuel tank is filled with fresh gasoline and the oil level is adequate. Set the choke lever to the 'start' position, pull the starter cord swiftly, and then move the choke lever to 'run' once the engine is running smoothly.
Use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of at least 87. Avoid using ethanol blends higher than 10%, as they can damage the engine.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use, then every 25 hours of operation or at the start of each mowing season. Use SAE 30 oil for optimal performance.
Check the fuel level and quality, ensure the spark plug is clean and connected, and verify that the air filter is not clogged. Also, make sure the mower is on level ground and the safety features are properly engaged.
Allow the engine to cool, then use a garden hose to wash the underside of the deck. Avoid spraying water directly into the engine. Wipe down the exterior with a damp cloth and store the mower in a dry place.
Regularly sharpen the mower blades and ensure they are balanced. Keep the undercarriage clean to prevent grass buildup, and adjust the cutting height based on the type of grass and lawn conditions.
Check for loose or damaged blades, ensure the blade is balanced, and inspect the engine mounting bolts for tightness. Excessive vibration can also be caused by a bent crankshaft, which may require professional repair.
Disconnect the spark plug wire, unscrew the old spark plug using a spark plug socket, and install a new spark plug with the correct gap setting. Reattach the spark plug wire securely.
Drain the fuel system or add a fuel stabilizer, change the oil, clean the air filter, inspect and sharpen the blades, and store the mower in a dry, sheltered area. Cover it to protect against dust and moisture.
Locate the cutting height adjustment levers, usually found on the wheels or deck. Move the levers to the desired height setting, ensuring all levers are set to the same position for an even cut.
