To start the McCulloch PM6556D Lawn Mower, first ensure that the mower is on a flat surface and the blade control lever is in the 'off' position. Press the primer bulb three times if the engine is cold. Pull the starter handle gently until you feel resistance, then pull it briskly to start the engine.
Use fresh, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of at least 87. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol content as it can damage the engine.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use, then at least once every 25 hours of operation or at the start of each mowing season. Use SAE 30 oil for the best performance.
If the mower won't start, check if there's enough fuel and that the fuel is fresh. Ensure the spark plug is clean and properly connected. Check the air filter for dirt and clean or replace it if necessary.
Before cleaning, disconnect the spark plug wire for safety. Use a garden hose to rinse off grass clippings and debris from the cutting deck. For stubborn buildup, use a plastic scraper or brush.
Remove the blade by loosening the bolt at the center. Secure the blade in a vise and use a file or a rotary grinder to sharpen the edge. Be sure to balance the blade before reattaching it to avoid vibration.
Excessive vibration can be caused by an unbalanced blade, loose parts, or debris lodged in the mower. Check the blade for damage and balance, and tighten any loose bolts. Remove any debris from the deck and engine area.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the height adjustment levers on each wheel. Move the levers to the desired position, ensuring all four wheels are set to the same height for an even cut.
Replace the air filter at least once per mowing season or every 25 hours of operation. If you mow in dusty conditions, check and clean or replace the filter more frequently.
To winterize your mower, drain the fuel tank or add a fuel stabilizer to prevent fuel degradation. Clean the mower thoroughly, change the oil, and remove the spark plug to add a small amount of oil into the cylinder. Reattach the plug, and store the mower in a dry place.
