To start the McCulloch MC653 SP, ensure the fuel tank is filled and the oil level is adequate. Engage the choke if the engine is cold, pull the starter rope firmly, and release the choke gradually as the engine warms up.
Perform regular maintenance every 25 hours of use, including checking and replacing the oil, cleaning or replacing the air filter, inspecting the spark plug, and sharpening the blade.
Check for common issues such as an empty fuel tank, a clogged air filter, a faulty spark plug, or old fuel. Ensure the safety lever is engaged while starting.
Use fresh, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the height adjustment lever on each wheel and move it to the desired position. Ensure all wheels are set to the same height for an even cut.
Check for a damaged or unbalanced blade. Remove the blade and inspect it for bends or damage. Sharpen or replace the blade if necessary.
Sharpen the blade after every 20-25 hours of use or at the beginning of each mowing season to ensure a clean cut and reduce strain on the engine.
Clean the mower thoroughly, remove fuel from the tank, change the oil, and store it in a dry, sheltered place. Disconnect the spark plug to prevent accidental starts.
Remove the spark plug wire, clean the area around the spark plug, use a spark plug socket to remove the old plug, and install the new plug. Ensure it is properly gapped and tightened.
Inspect the drive belt for wear or damage, ensure the drive cable is properly connected and adjusted, and check the drive wheels for obstructions or damage.
