Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use, and then every 25 hours of operation or at the beginning of each mowing season.
Check the fuel level, ensure the spark plug is connected, and inspect the air filter. Clean or replace any components as needed.
Disconnect the spark plug, tilt the mower to its side (carburetor side up), and clean the deck with a brush and water.
Remove the blade from the mower, secure it in a vice, and use a file or sharpening stone to sharpen the edge evenly.
Locate the height adjustment levers near each wheel. Move the lever to the desired position to adjust the cutting height.
Ensure the blade is sharp, clean the underside of the deck, and adjust the cutting height. Mow when the grass is dry.
Check the drive cable for tension or damage. Adjust or replace the cable as necessary. Inspect the drive belt for wear.
Drain the fuel, clean the mower thoroughly, and store it in a dry place. Disconnect the spark plug and remove the battery if applicable.
