To start the McCulloch M51–551 CMDW Lawn Mower, ensure the fuel tank is filled, the oil level is adequate, and the spark plug is connected. Pull the starter handle firmly while holding the safety lever against the handlebar.
If the lawn mower does not start, check the fuel level, inspect the spark plug for wear or damage, ensure the air filter is clean, and verify the oil level. Replace any faulty components and try starting again.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use, and then every 25 hours of operation or at the beginning of each mowing season. Use SAE 30 oil for best performance.
Check the air filter every 25 hours of operation. Clean it by removing debris, washing with soapy water, and allowing it to dry completely before reinstalling. Replace it if it is damaged or excessively dirty.
Uneven cutting may be due to a dull blade, uneven tire pressure, or an incorrect cutting height setting. Sharpen or replace the blade, ensure tires are properly inflated, and adjust the cutting height as needed.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the height adjustment levers on each wheel. Move the levers to the desired position, ensuring all wheels are set to the same height for an even cut.
Excessive vibration may be caused by a damaged blade or loose parts. Inspect the blade for damage and tighten any loose bolts or screws. Replace the blade if necessary.
For winter storage, clean the mower thoroughly, drain the fuel tank, change the oil, remove the spark plug, and store the mower in a dry, sheltered location. Consider using a fuel stabilizer if leaving fuel in the tank.
To ensure optimal performance, regularly maintain the mower by checking and changing the oil, cleaning or replacing the air filter, sharpening the blade, and keeping the undercarriage clear of grass clippings and debris.
Use unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol content to prevent damage to the engine.
